THE INTEGRITY PAPERS Genre - Benking - US Website  Homepage
Heiner Benking, hailing from Ulm, Germany, is one of the planet's rising synthesizers of  contemporary and future thought.  The material he presents is far-reaching and important.  Consider it well.  Do not hesitate to read his other works and follow his suggested net-links.

Recent Work & Survival Report                         phantasy-Petrov-Wodkin1925.gif (42602 bytes)

My favourite picture is called Phantasy by Kusma Sergejewitsch Petrow-Wodkin (1878-1939).
Petrow-Wodkin saw humans as one out of many creatures, and nature as holistic, always changing  perspectives.  This romantic ride is a poetic dream of the free command over space which can be reached through the arts - the outward expressions of the ever present landscapes and spaces in our abundant minds.   I see artistic, paedagogical and scientific results as having one common source: imagination, creativity, and professionalism.    According to John Ruskin the highest capability of humans is the ability to "see", and reproduce or represent what we have perceived, to others.  I don't entirely agree with Ruskin - who was pessimistic in explaining that one person out of a hundred can think, but only one person out of a thousand can see.  I do agree with his sentiment that humans are intellectually in "isolation" and that we need to build bridges, see with other eyes, and share common frames. Only then we will see that we are not alone. We may each be 'one', but together we are 'One".
My work is about space and embodiment, communication and transformation.  By moving the boundaries of what we can share we give concepts and their contexts a place, we make words and issues solid for the sake of being able to synscopically, syntonically and polyaesthetically scrutinise them. As we are used to coping and finding orientations in physical space, the „res extensa“, we apply what we do in the physical realms to other „worlds“ - aesthetic, mythological and theoretical spaces. Having something to grasp, grok and grope in the „res cogitans“ might make issues in life more real and bearable, as we share, instead of cultivating isolation and ignorance.

Sharing in Borderland

What  is  this  website  about ?   -    What is about about?

These pages are about coping, sharing and co-creation. How we can facilitate new forms of exchange and
how we can foster new ideas in common environments. After cultivating, listening and making transparent the dynamics in dialogue, we arrive at a certain point. How can we find understanding if we can not see where
ideas are conceptually - on which level, in which contexts and with which lenses? The search for a common framework for understanding led to a design which was spacial and deep, a design of interspaces, looking into how we bridge representations and models in a way which is simple and open.  Crucially, these explorations include the intuitive understanding that the mere process of "exploring" and "establishing connections" auto- matically creates new environments as it goes along. We are driven to improve human communication. And all the processes and techniques will by default, blend into comfort with one another. Our efforts will create the architecture -- some "planned", but most as "emerged" -- to be deeply appreciated only after they are already
in place. We will discover that we can build something based on wisdom and experience, yet that it is better than we could ever have dreamed and imagined.

We can define and agree on many categories, ways we agree on whether something is "inside or outside the box". See: Sharing & Changing Realities (1997). The test is if a schema is helpful, simple and to some degree coherent and complete. As we want to excahnge about positions, physical and logical  ones, it is good  to cope with and find again points and issues. For  the beginning we stick to the framework used also for another earlier  homepage  and speak about central legs or columns in the life and work of Heiner Benking. Here a selection of articles structured in the categories: Sharing Voices, Spaces, and Futures.

Please note: 10/98 the author is currently working on the Global Learn Day  project and  Interests Maps and Knowledge Maps   in order to outline and index thematic regions or bodies. This work is done with children but has to be seen in the context of work during the last 10 years in the field of meta-databases, multi-lingual information systems, and knowledge organization (cultural navigation)

As you can immediately see, any system or grid is limited. Three categories, 99 categories, or any schema is only as good as it is of practical value for a given purpose. We have to be aware about the objectives, positions, assumptions, and limitations - the what, where and the why. This background and the thematic neighborhoods and how to agree on and change and exchange about issues and topics, are the central concerns of the author. Ways to present and represent have to be judged according to the very simple criteria: Are schemas: * Helpful ?, * Simple and easy to remember?, * Coherent or with a clear or intuitive inner order?, * And as far as possible and practical complete?, see the maps for children above and the paper: Sharing & Changing Realities .
